Hibiscus Ginger Lime Tea Cocktail

Getting ready for warmer weather (or, maybe just the weekend) means thinking about fun and easy cocktails I can make with ingredients at home. For me, a collector of tea, I have plenty to choose from to mix-master into fun, cool cocktails for the patio. And when I tasted this easy to make, delicious, and attractive cocktail, I had to add it to my regular beverage rotation.

You can make it as a cocktail (meaning, with booze), or as a punch - even little kids love the punch version!

Here's the recipe, which makes a pitcher full (about 8 cups):

Punch version:

  • 4 tbsp loose leaf Hibiscus tea
  • 3 tbsp loose leaf Ginger tea or roughly chopped and peeled fresh ginger
  • Juice of 2-3 fresh limes
  • Sweetener to taste (Ex: 3 tsp Agave nectar, or 5 tsp maple syrup, or 5 tsp honey)
  • 8 cups of filtered water, room temperature

Cocktail version:

Add 6 ounces of gin, or, to taste

  1. Fill a pitcher with water, and add the tea (use a large infuser such as in one or more Glass Infuser Teapots, or several Reusable Cotton Tea Bags or disposable Tea Brew Paper Tea Bags).
  2. Infuse the tea for about 2 hours at room temperature.
  3. Remove the tea, and add the lime juice.
  4. Add the sweetener and stir well (if using a thick sweetener like honey, you make need to using a whisk or blender to thoroughly mix it in).
  5. Add the ice cubes, the gin if using, and enjoy. Cheers!
